another update

INNA jam has landed at Pot + Pantry!

For now, we have King Kong Plumcot, Plenty Spicy Jalapeno and Polka Raspberry. Bright, fruity, and so real. I love when jam tastes real, if that makes sense.

Dafna of INNA jam is also going to be teaching a class at CUESA in February on preserving meyer lemons that I'd love to take. I encourage you to enroll as well! Get more details here.

the gift guide that never was

I was planning to post more gift guides (i.e. gifts for the Mexican food lover, the baker, the sweet tooth, etc), but this week I've kind of gotten swept up in, you know, work. So instead, I shall point you in the direction of this lovely gift guide on Poppytalk. It's got all sorts of goodies I would have recommended myself, but didn't. Like this:

And these:

See what I mean?

{Times like this I wish there were a word that accurately captured the sound of cat-calling. Maybe one of those onomatopoeic things. Because I'm cat-calling the heck out of those teapots.}

But although I haven't had time to make a gift guide for the various food lovers in your lives, I did make time to create a gift guide for my husband. About what to get me. :D There is but one item in that guide, and one item only:

The Tell Tale Society bag. Fingers crossed!

everybody's doing it

Seems like everyone is putting out a gift guide this year, so I figured why not join in on the fun?

For my first gift guide (ever!), I've gone with an Asian-y thing, for your favorite Asian food-loving friend, or just your Asian friend, period.

1. Artisan-Made Kishibori Shoyu ($14), found via Heidi at 101 Cookbooks, because fine Asian cuisine deserves better than Kikkoman.
2. Organic Mermaid Print Napkins ($24 for 2) by Katherine J Lee (a Pot + Pantry vendor, yea!), perfect for dabbing the corners of your mouth after eating Kishibori Shoyu-dipped sashimi.
3. Mother in Law's Napa Cabbage Kimchi ($20 for 2 jars) because anyone who likes kimchi is a friend of mine.
4. ChabaTree Chopstick Set with Cat-shaped Rests ($26 at Pot + Pantry, in-store only) because they are just so dang cute!

around the shop

Some phone snaps of my DIY wreaths for the window...

I do love me some plaid.

Just got in some more bakeware, cooks' tools and linens! But no pictures of those, since they don't photograph as pretty. :)

playing with food

Tis the season of gift wrap! I love it so. I'm a big fan of simple kraft paper + baker's twine when it comes to wrapping presents, but how about this nifty idea for some added flair?

Celery stamps!

happy thanksgiving!

I have so much to be thankful for this year, I don't even know where to begin. I'll take the easy way out and say I'm thankful for just about everything!

happy thanksgiving (to me)!

What a joy to wake up to this in my inbox this morning:

Somebody pinch me! It's definitely shaping up to be a happy Thanksgiving. :D

Speaking of Thanksgiving...can you believe that in two days it's basically full-on Christmas shopping season? And then it's 2011, just like that. Each year gets shorter and shorter! This is a fact that I will someday prove with science, or just with my imagination.

Anyway, of course I've got your back, holiday shoppers! I have loads of fun things coming in over the next few weeks whether you're looking for a gift for someone or seeking to decorate your kitchen for the season. Take these beauties, for instance:

Handprinted napkins. And they come with a free gift: bragging rights that they're made by a local artist, printed on organic cotton and hemp. :D

We're closed on Turkey Day, but we'll be business as usual come Friday. Have a great Thanksgiving!!

i don't mean to brag

But check out the write up on SF Weekly about my lil ol' new shop! I'm so tickled!

In other news, I'll be getting a LOT more product in over the next few weeks as Christmas shopping gets under way! I already had some customers doing gift shopping this past weekend -- I was amazed at how ahead of the game they were (and how behind I am?).

So much to do, so much to do. Good thing I like being busy. :)

oh hey now!

My first write-up!! Wish there were someone around for me to high-five. I'm not ashamed to admit that I stumbled upon it by Google-ing myself. See it here!

Pot + Pantry Opens in Noe Valley

Walking up the 22nd Street hill towards Dolores Street, one might have the impression that a little girl just got the biggest dollhouse one could imagine. No, that's just Donna Suh Wageman's cutest little store, Pot + Pantry, (3412 22nd Street) which sells new kitchen appliances and cookware as well as vintage items she herself selects in her scavenging. Donna, who used to work at Williams and Sonoma, always loved antiques and believes beautiful things should always have a second chance in the most tasteful homes. If you have anything to sell here, buying hours will be announced in December. Just in time for Christmas!

finally

I finally took a moment to take some photos of the shop, hooray! The raw photos were pretty amateurish, but thank goodness for apps like Poladroid. Now, the pics look artsy and deserving of my Mission location. :)

Too many photos to post here, but you can check them all out on my Facebook album here. Below are a few of my faves.

time to stock up

P+P is closed today, but in the meantime check out this very useful article from The Kitchn on the ten things to buy in the next 60 days. You're welcome. :)

just a few pics

Because I'm a little stupid, the night of the opening party I managed to (1) forget my camera and (2) neglect to designate one of my friends as the photographer for the evening. So, I personally have no photos of the night to share.

But, of course, my sister has saved the day. She sent me a few snapshots that she took at the start of the festivities.

Hey y'all! My mom says hello, as do my husband and the chalkboard above.

Here's a view of my wee little shop from the front entrance. A wee shop for a wee shop owner.

My window display, built for me by a buddy much more talented than I.

I wish I had some photos of the store setup (and my merchandise!), but it slipped my mind once people started arriving. Everything is a blur to me now but I'm told around 60-70 people attended that night, woot! The party was from 6-8p, but people stayed til 10 which makes it a success in my book! Having a ton of booze doesn't hurt, I guess.

It was a good night. :)

and we're in business!

Just like *that*. It's surreal.

It's only been two days, but I'm in love with the neighborhood! Curious neighbors aplenty have been popping in to say hello, and I am so charmed to meet them. I have a very good feeling about this...

Anyway, I'd like you to meet my newest and, quite possibly my most favorite, acquisition.

Hello, lover.

Makes me weak in the knees.

Pictures from the very successful opening party coming soon! Stay tuned.

a long day/night

Just got home from spending all day (and night) in the shop. I don't have a lot to show for it (AT&T stood me up, even after giving me 4 reminder calls about our 4-hour appointment window!), but I did have some beautiful elves come later in the evening to help me build this lovely cabinet.

Thanks, my pretties. Building furniture + time with friends = 2 birds with 1 stone. Yea!

a lesson learned

Every time I paint the walls on a new apartment (or paint them as I ready to move out of an old apartment), I always promise myself that I'll never put myself through that again. Painting is such a pain!

Thankfully, Robin, Rick and Joe stepped in to save me some sanity. After tedious (oh, SO tedious) measuring, re-measuring, taping, re-taping, we finally started making some progress.

And then look!

Before I knew it, we were done. Ta-da!

I gotta tell you though, I've learned my lesson. Never again.

Barney's Unveils Food-Themed Holiday Windows on November 16

{from nbcnewyork}

So interesting! Can't wait to see what they look like...

“The foodie icons are stealing the limelight from the regular red-carpet celebs," Barney's creative director Simon Doonen tells WWD today. "At Barneys our customers are not really interested in what Kim Kardashian is up to or when Lindsay [Lohan] is getting out of jail. They are much more interested in Mario Batali and Anthony Bourdain and Anne Burrell."

So it follows that the department store has decided to give its holiday windows over to The Food Network and Cooking Channel (with help from the NY marketing-crazed Illycaffè).

On November 16, "one window will be reserved for the Bad Boys of Food, including Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse and Batali. The Gals of Food will feature reigning female chefs Burrell, Paula Dean, Ina Garten, Cat Cora, Sandra Lee, Donatella Arpaia and Anita Lo, among others," writes WWD. The third window promises a surreal scene comprised of "historic and contemporary creative types wafting out of a giant copper saucepan."

The big reveal coincides with a book party for Lee Schrager's Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival Cookbook. And later in the month, Doonen crosses over onto the food tube when he judges an Iron Chef episode airing November 28. That food better be pretty.

and we're off!

It's on like Donkey Kong, y'all.

I got the keys today and immediately put up a temporary sign and some paper to cover the windows. Here's a close up of the sign:

This is really happening!

it's been a while

I'm back, and better than ever! Just signed the lease for a retail space, so now it's time for action. I'm so excited!!! And terrified and nervous and overwhelmed and happy. It's the tiniest of spaces, but I do love it. I'll share more details on that soon.

In the meantime, I'm finding this image quite inspiring. Oh, to have my space look like that! *fingers crossed*

happy valentine's day!

So it's not a "legit" holiday or whatever, but these cookies would be so cute for V-Day or any day. I'm guessing the handwritten notes are printed on those edible sheets. And at $65 for 18 cookies, I have a sneaking suspicion they taste as good as they look.

Sold my first item ever in my Etsy shop.

Goodbye, Emile Henry Butter Pot! It was nice knowing you.

...nothing hits the spot like take-out pizza. So good on a lazy, cold winter night.

Don't judge.
